Founder at Arkose

Hello! I'm Vael, and I run Arkose, a field-building nonprofit with the mission of reducing risks from advanced AI.

I was recently a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, as a fellow with HAI and CISAC. There, I interviewed AI researchers on their perspectives on current AI and the future of AI, with a focus on risks from advanced systems. Those results are now available at AI Risk Discussions!

More generally, I'm quite concerned about potential risks from advanced AI systems (some favorite resources on the topic), and tend to work on projects that I hope will reduce those risks.

Previously, I completed my PhD in Tom Griffiths's Computational Cognitive Science Lab at UC Berkeley / Princeton University, where I also collaborated with CHAI. While unrelated to my current work, I had a great time working on computational models of social cognition.
